Roma will have to wait until at least Friday to win the Serie A title after being held to a goalless draw by Fiorentina. At the opposite end of the table, Napoli played out a 1-1 draw with relegation rivals Pomigliano.
Here, we will round up all the action from the most recent round of Serie A fixtures.
After playing out a goalless first half, Sassuolo hit the front in the 55th minute thanks to an effort from Juventus loanee Chiara Beccari. The 19-year-old controlled Lana Clelland’s cross before drilling a right-foot shot into the bottom corner. Lisa Boattin produced an unstoppable free-kick to mark her 200th Juventus appearance with a spectacular goal. Paulina Nyström then pounced on a loose ball from a corner to tap in from close range. Juventus remain in second place with a 10-point cushion over Fiorentina and an 11-point deficit to Roma.
Fiorentina thought they had taken an early lead in their Serie A clash when Pauline Hammarlund headed home in the second minute. However, the Swedish forward saw her effort ruled out after the referee ruled that Emma Severini had fouled Camelia Ceasar.
As the game progressed, Roma desperately tried to find the winning goal that would secure a second straight title. The visitors ultimately had to settle for a point, ensuring they must wait a little longer to seal the Scudetto. Roma will play next on May 1, but they could win the title on Friday if Juventus fail to beat Inter.
Kamila Dubcová tapped in from Chanté Dompig’s squared ball to give Milan a slender half-time lead. Evelyn Ijeh then nodded in from Valentina Bergamaschi’s cross to double Milan’s advantage inside the opening two minutes of the second half. Sampdoria quickly pulled a goal back through Talia DellaPeruta. However, Sampdoria’s hopes of salvaging a point were quashed by Ijeh. The 22-year-old latched onto Marta Mascarello’s pass to slide the ball beyond Amanda Tampieri to seal her brace and all three points.
Napoli and Pomigliano had to settle for a share of the spoils in a crucial battle between Serie A’s bottom two. Nicole Arcangeli broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, driving inside from the left flank to slot the ball into the bottom corner. Napoli forward Marija Banušic managed to squeeze her free-kick past Emilie Gavillet to restore parity just after the hour-mark. Pomigliano remain rooted to the bottom of the table, while Napoli are four points better off in the relegation playoff spot.
