Napoli lead the way in Serie A with a tally of 19 points from their opening eight matches of the season. Antonio Conte’s side maintained their lead of two points after a 1-0 win over Empoli on Saturday, thanks to a Khvicha Kvarataskhelia penalty.

Inter made sure that the lead between them and the leaders, Napoli, did not extend any further by beating Roma 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening. Lautaro Martinez broke his duct to provide the winner on the hour mark.

Juventus also picked up another 1-0 victory against Lazio, thanks to a Mario Gila own goal late on. The Bianconeri are third on 16 points, averaging two per game, and are just one point off Inter in second.

Milan sit two points off Juventus, in fourth place with a tally of 14 thanks to a 1-0 win at home against Udinese.

Fiorentina, meanwhile, jumped up to fifth place with an emphatic 6-0 victory away against Lecce.

Atalanta also won at the weekend and are in sixth place with 13 points from eight games, but, despite a 2-0 win away against Venezia, they have fallen behind Fiorentina on goal difference.

Lazio and Udinese, in seventh and eight respectively, also have 13 points, but sit behind Fiorentina and Atalanta with goal differences of +2 and -1.

Torino, beaten 3-2 by Lazio at the weekend, have now lost three in a row and sit in 10th, despite leading the Serie A table earlier on in the campaign.

Roma complete the top half of the Serie A table with 10 points from eight games following their 1-0 loss to Inter.

In the bottom half of the table, Monza made a big leap out of the relegation zone with a determined 3-0 victory away against Verona in the final game of the round on Monday evening.

They are now up to 16th place and are just three points off Roma in the top half of the Serie A table.
