Shelbourne Football Club has today confirmed the departure of Vice-Captain Shane Griffin, forward Matty Smith, and forward Dean Williams following the expiration of their contracts with the club.

Shane Griffin joined Shelbourne in December 2022, has been a pivotal figure in the team’s defence, overcoming a number of injury setbacks to contribute significantly over the past three seasons.

The club vice captain, the Cork native made 77 Shels senior appearances and scored two goals during his time at Tolka Park.

Matty Smith, initially joining on loan in August 2022 from Derry City before making the move permanent in December 2022. The Scot was a statement signing from Damien Duff, having won a FAI Cup with St Patrick’s Athletic before his move to the Brandywell.

His arrival to Tolka Park signalled the Reds intent to push on and compete for European football over the coming seasons.

He has been a key player in the attack, playing 72 times for Shels, scoring 8 competitive goals.

Dean Williams signed with Shelbourne in November 2023 and added depth and versatility to the attacking options during his tenure.
