The Blades are believed to be closing in on a deal to recruit former Everton full-back Jonjoe Kenny.
Sheffield United are getting closer to agreeing a deal for Hertha Berlin full-back Jonjoe Kenny.
According to Alan Nixon, the Blades are likely to pay in the region of £800,000 to lure him away from the Bundesliga deal, if an agreement can be tied up for the ex-Everton man.
This update comes amid a busy period for the South Yorkshire side, who are closing in on the signing of Southampton attacker Ben Brereton Diaz, who was on loan at Bramall Lane last season.
He is one of a few players believed to be closing in on a switch to United, with the club also believed to be prepared to fork out around £13m to lure Tom Cannon away from Leicester City.
With their forward department looking set to be bolstered by a couple of options, Chris Wilder also seems to be keen to look at their defensive area.
The Blades already have a couple of options in their full-back department, with loanee Alfie Gilchrist starting most games and Femi Seriki also now available as a backup option again, coming off the bench against Norwich City on Saturday.
But Jamie Shackleton has been on the sidelines recently and Kenny could come in as a natural option on the right-hand side.
It doesn't seem like a deal is too far away from being concluded.
The Blades will pay a fee of around £800,000 if they sign Kenny, according to Nixon.
And the same journalist believes the promotion challenges will hand the 27-year-old a two-year contract to prove his worth at Bramall Lane.
It took a little while for Kenny's career to get going again, having spent quite a long time at Goodison Park and going out on a number of loan spells before his switch to Hertha.
His spell with the Bundesliga team has allowed him to establish himself as a solid top-flight player, who can make valuable contributions in the final third.
The Blades need their defenders to be able to defend, first and foremost.
And with the experience Kenny has, he should be able to cope with life at Bramall Lane and keep clean sheets.
As well as this, the defender can be a real asset in the final third, which is a real bonus, and these contributions could make a difference in the promotion race.
He also could be a good player to have in both the Championship and the Premier League, which could make him an especially smart purchase for the Blades.
