Sheffield United only have three players out of contract in the summer of 2025 but Chris Wilder will still face big decisions
Despite having a familiar face in the dugout in the form of Chris Wilder, the start of the 2024/25 campaign feels like a fresh start for Sheffield United given the turnover of players in the summer.
Experienced players like Ollie Norwood and Chris Basham were released in the summer after being part of a successful couple of seasons which had seen the Blades twice promoted to the Premier League.
However, a bitterly disappointing campaign in the Premier League which saw them finish bottom of the table after winning just three games meant it was time to move on the old guard and bring through new players.
It's a move that has proved successful so far with Wilder's side enjoying a bright start to the Championship season, and new signings like Callum O'Hare, Michael Cooper and Harrison Burrows have made an impact since their summer moves.
After a big overhaul in the summer, Sheffield United only have three players out of contract next summer, a small amount compared to most sides in the division, but Wilder will still have to make some big decisions about whether he wants to keep them at the club or not.
With that in mind, here are the three players set to leave Bramall Lane next summer.
Centre-back Jack Robinson joined the Blades in January 2020 from Nottingham Forest, and he's become a hugely influential figure for the club.
Robinson has worn the captain's armband on a number of occasions and looked set to skipper the Blades this season after wearing the armband in the first two games of the current campaign, but injury has meant he lost his place in the team, and he's struggled to win it back since.
The 31-year-old is clearly well thought of by Wilder, having been signed by him four-and-a-half years ago, and despite playing 34 games in the Premier League last season, he looks set to struggle to become a regular starter as the current campaign progresses.
Whether Robinson earns a new deal or not could come down to what division they're playing in next season, but at the moment it looks like he may struggle to get enough game time under his belt to command a new deal.
Mali international midfielder Ismaila Coulibaly joined the Blades in September 2020, but he's struggled to make an impact at the club.
He spent two years on loan at Belgian side Beerschot between 2020 and 2022, before spending time on loan with Swedish giants AIK earlier this year.
However, despite getting regular playing time under his belt during recent loan spells, the 23-year-old has struggled for Championship minutes this season, and has seen his action come in the EFL Cup, starting games against Wrexham and Barnsley.
The 23-year-old is reaching an age where he needs to play regular football, and unless something drastic changes in the next couple of months, that doesn't look like it will be the case at Sheffield United.
Given his age, and the lack of impact he's had in the last four years, it would be a huge surprise if Coulibaly saw his contract at Sheffield United extended, and you'd expect him to leave in the summer.
A signing that promised so much in October 2020, Brewster's time at Sheffield United has been overshadowed by injuries.
Brought to the club for a huge £23.5million from Liverpool, Brewster has recovered from injuries to play on a regular basis this season, mostly from the bench, but it's clear that Wilder likes him and wants him to do well.
However, the 24-year-old has had woes in front of goal, and while injuries clearly haven't helped, he'll be desperately disappointed with his lack of goals in a Sheffield United shirt.
There aren't many players who deserve a stroke of luck more than Brewster currently does, and if he can start finding the back of the net, they may see glimpses of the player who commanded a fee of £23.5million just four years ago.
At the moment it looks unlikely that Brewster would earn a new deal at Sheffield United, but Wilder likes him and if he could just find some confidence and string a run of starts together, there's no reason why he can't turn his career around and extend his stay at the club.
