Showdown on Saturday with in-form Violets

FC Red Bull Salzburg
·20 February 2025
The big match in Vienna is beckoning - we are away this Saturday 22 February at 17:00 CET against an Austria Vienna side level on points with Sturm Graz at the top of the table - and we could barely want the points any more. Austria are very much the team of the moment - not only because of their derby win against Rapid. We have already shown this season we know how to beat them!
In September 2024 we took a 2-0 win against FAK as an Oscar Gloukh brace secured us the points. That continued a wonderful run against the Violets, which has seen us go unbeaten in our past 19 meetings, 15 of which we have won.
The club from the Austrian capital have really pressed on since then - as the last clash in September remains their last defeat – and they have raced up right to the top of the table. The Violets' restart since the winter break speaks for itself too - with Stephan Helm's team taking a 2-0 win in the UNIQA ÖFB Cup quarter-final against SK Sturm Graz. Their league meeting a few days later ended drawn - and the Graz and Viennese outfits are now level on points at the top of the league.
We definitely don't have an easy task ahead on Saturday, but we are eager to win - finally. Details for fans travelling to support us can be found in our away info. Those staying at home can watch the match as usual on Sky Sport Austria or on OneFootball internationally.

The fact is that we are fifth in the table currently. We therefore want to use the last four matches in the regular season to take as many points as possible in the knowledge that the next few fixtures aren't the easiest. Austria Vienna are currently in a completely different situation to us. Everything seems to be going their way at the moment, and they are deservedly right at the top with Sturm. We are travelling to Vienna to show our quality. Even if things aren't ideal right now, it's up to us to reverse the trend and get points with a good performance.

We have a really difficult task ahead of us, as Austria Vienna are a really top team. They are not level on points with Sturm at the top of the table for nothing, and are full of confidence. Our aim in this match is to perform determinedly and hold our own with real passion. We want to take the three points back to Salzburg with a concentrated and battling performance.
