In an Instagram post Sint-Truiden’s captain Toni Leistner has confirmed that he will not be renewing his contract with the club. The player had stated a few months ago that there had been no contact with the club regarding a new deal, which now appears to have been confirmed to the player that there will be no extension.
Leistner joined the club on a free last season from Hamburg and has been ever present for Bernd Hollerbach, who made the experienced German defender captain. Leistner has made 21 appearances in the league this season, scoring once. Sint-Truiden are one of the best defensive sides in the league, having conceded just 28 goals in 25 games. They are just behind top sides like Genk, Antwerp and Union St Gilloise in terms of goals conceded.
There will be a major change this summer in Sint-Truiden, with coach Bernd Hollerbach also heading out the door. On top of that, another 10 players are out of contract at the end of the season.
