That is all set to change with reports suggesting that the winger from the Belgian League will be on his way to the Stadium of Light.

One player that he is reporting is not heading to the North East, though, is Man United's Amad Diallo, in spite of some reports suggesting that Sunderland were making a late push to sign him.

Mundle is a 20-year-old English winger, who was born in Edmonton and joined Tottenham's youth academy as a teenager, where he came through the ranks and eventually signed his first professional contract with the club in May 2021.

The following season, he began to train with the first-team, but he would never make a senior appearance. However, was a regular in Spurs' U-18 and U-23 sides.

In June last year, it was revealed that Mundle had rejected a new contract with Spurs in order to sign a four-year contract with Belgian Pro League side Standard Liege.

He made his professional debut on 30 July 2023 for Standard Liege against Sint-Truiden and has so far made seven first-team appearances for the side.

None of those have come from the start, with the 20-year-old mostly appearing for a short stint from the bench or starting in games for the youth team.

Due to his lack of game time in North London, he subsequently moved to the Belgian Pro League in order to garner game time; but, despite making a handful of appearances, his spell abroad will be cut short and he's set to be installed as the newest addition to a young Sunderland team.

The acquisitions of players such as Jobe Bellingham and Jenson Seelt, among others, are all aged 21 and under, and have helped to add continuity and progression to the sustainable, forward-thinking model that has been put into place, with Mundle set to be the latest to come in who fits that criteria.

The 20-year-old is in England to seal the switch to the Black Cats and is completing his medical today, as per Fabrizio Romano's latest update.

Sky Sports' North East reporter, Keith Downie, believes that a fee of around £2 million has been agreed with Standard Liege for the winger. That's a significant profit for his current side, who picked him up for free from Spurs in the summer.

A good addition for Sunderland

Speaking to Spurs fans will be sure to get Sunderland fans excited, with many of them very impressed with Mundle's displays in their youth teams.

He is an attacker who can play on either side of the striker, and the only downside is his lack of match action, perhaps meaning he will lack some sharpness to start games initially.

He's yet to register a goal or an assist for Standard Liege and has only featured twice since the back end of August - with an ankle injury and bench appearances hampering his game time.

He is renowned for his pace and trickery, but importantly, can be deployed on either flank for the Black Cats. His speed and agility should be of benefit to Sunderland in transition when the team has the chance to counter-attack.

With Diallo unlikely to sign, Sunderland have been in need of that sort of differential. They have players who can break quickly, but none have the pace of Mundle.
