Southampton defender Ronnie Edwards is on the radar of Danny Röhl as he prepares for his January transfer window plan.
Danny Röhl needs no introduction to Southampton fans. Not only is the German international a former member of staff at St Marys Stadium but he was also linked with the job to replace Russell Martin earlier this month.
Now, Danny Röhl has not taken his eye off Southampton as he prepares for a telling January transfer window with Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls are 11th in the Championship table and they are eyeing a finish within the playoff spots, which would be tremendous for them.
To do so, Danny Röhl aims to get an edge over his competition by exploiting a great market opportunity.
According to a report from Joe Crann of The Star, Sheffield Wednesday are interested in signing Southampton defender Ronnie Edwards on loan in the January transfer window.
It is believed that the Saints are open to sending Edwards out on loan, with the hopes of securing first-team football and more minutes elsewhere. Since his arrival at Southampton in the summer, he has hardly played.
So, now, Juric is aiming to rectify a loose bolt left behind by Russell Martin. By sending Edwards out on loan, it would ensure that the young defender continues his development.
To be clear, Southampton are not giving up on Edwards. They are simply doing what is best for all parties involved by sending him out on a temporary trip away.
After all, Southampton have mission impossible ahead of them. While everybody is understandably writing off the Saints, Ivan Juric remains keen to secure safety in the Premier League between now and the end of the season.
Therefore, Southampton are not in a position where they can offer game-time to fringe players. While this might have been discussed during the player's onboarding, those informal agreements go out of the window when Southampton are rock bottom of the Premier League table.
