Southampton are eyeing a replacement for Ivan Juric as they prepare for life back in the Championship
Southampton have held talks with both Eric Ramsay and Will Still over their managerial vacancy.
According to talkSPORT, the Saints have already held meetings with two prospective coaches over replacing the already departed Ivan Juric.
Croatian boss Juric was appointed in December to replace Russell Martin, with the club in danger of relegation from the Premier League, but was dismissed earlier this month once their place in the Championship was confirmed.
Southampton will be hoping that their next manager will be able to guide the team back to the top flight at the first attempt, and they have spoken to two up-and-coming coaches already.
Southampton have reportedly held an interview with Ramsay over the vacancy at St Mary’s as they look to make an appointment that can oversee their summer recruitment strategy.
Ramsay is currently working in MLS as the Minnesota United manager and has previously been a coach at Manchester United and Chelsea, but it’s understood he’s not a front-running candidate for the position despite discussions.
Still has also held talks with the Saints about potentially becoming Juric’s permanent replacement.
However, no decision is expected in the immediate future, with the club hoping to take their time with this appointment.
The likes of Danny Rohl, David Wagner and Frank Lampard have all also been mentioned as coaches under consideration for the role, with Rohl a former assistant coach at Saints.
Russell Martin oversaw the team’s promotion to the Premier League last season, but was dismissed in December after a poor first half of the term.
Juric arrived as his replacement, but struggled to turn around the side’s form, leading to his dismissal earlier this month.
Southampton have suffered a second relegation in three seasons, with the team bottom of the top flight table.
The Saints need one more point from their final four games to avoid equalling Derby County’s record for the lowest ever Premier League points tally.
Still is currently working with French side Lens, and has built a strong reputation as a promising young coach during his time in Ligue 1 - he could now be ready to return to his home nation of England though.
His appointment would freshen things up at St. Mary’s and could reinvigorate the club as a whole.
Other names being linked with the position like Rohl could also be promising given the work he’s done at Sheffield Wednesday.
But it’s crucial that the Southampton decision-makers get this right, as another disappointing appointment would put them under a lot of pressure from the supporters after this dismal campaign.
