Southampton's previous goalkeeping target Justin Bijlow picks a knee injury during the final Champions League group stage match.
Recently, Southampton manager Ivan Juric has given a pleasant surprise to the fans. The Croatian's injury announcements, especially Ramsdale's have put the Saints' morale on cloud nine.
Agreed, the Englishman is error-prone but that doesn't change the fact that he has been a difference maker for Southampton. Last week, every home fan saw the Saints repeating defensive mistakes again and again.
Having a vocal leader like Ramsdale ensures that doesn't become the norm. Thus, Southampton must thank the board for making the right call to sign Ramsdale from Arsenal.
Further, a different decision back then could have left them regretting.
Currently, we are talking about Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow. For those who don't know, Bijlow was Southampton's primary choice as a new goalkeeper.
The Saints even negotiated a summer transfer with Feyenoord and everything was going according to the plan. Unfortunately, the Dutch shot-stopper was injured and as a result, couldn't pass the medical tests.
Then, Southampton decided against taking the risk and later brought Ramsdale. Safe to say, the Saints have been proven true with the way things are going.
Since then, Bijlow has been inconsistently in and out of the Feyenoord side due to injuries. Still, the previous few matches boosted Bijlow's momentum and last week, he produced a masterclass performance against Bayern Munich.
Unluckily, there was a bigger agony waiting for him. A few days ago, Bijlow fatigued his knee against Lille and had to be substituted as a precautionary measure.
Southampton fans don't need any reminding when Ramsdale missed a few Premier League games earlier. Thus, one can imagine the amount of headache the Saints would have received if Bijlow sustained a severe injury here.
Lastly, let's hope Bijlow quickly recovers and makes a great comeback for his club and country.
