Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente has provided an insight into the reasoning behind the premature departure of Lamine Yamal from his squad.

Wide-man Lamine, of course, was sent back to Barcelona by the Spanish medical team staff over the weekend.

This came after the 17-year-old was spotted limping heavily, in the aftermath of La Roja’s Nations League victory over Denmark on Saturday.

Ensuing reports suggested that manager Luis de la Fuente was not overly happy with as much, eager for Lamine to stay put in the hopes of being passed fit in time to face Serbia on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media this evening, it therefore came as little surprise when the name of his side’s explosive winger was put to Spain’s headmaster himself.

De la Fuente, though, was keen to make clear that he and his staff ‘always look after the footballer’ and his best interests:

“Lamine had a problem after the match. I spoke to him and he didn’t think he would be 100% on Tuesday. We always look after the footballer and we decided that he should rest as we have done with other players.”
