Amaiur Sarriegi has been drafted into Spain’s Euro 2022 squad to replace Alexia Putellas.
Putellas has been forced to withdraw from the squad and faces months on the sidelines after picking up a devastating ACL injury during a training session on Tuesday.
And the Ballon d’Or winner will now be replaced by Real Sociedad forward Sarriegi, who scored 17 league goals last season and had been part of the initial 28-player preliminary squad selected by coach Jorge Vilda.
La Roja kick off their tournament against Finland in Milton Keynes on Friday.
