The last few years have seen a significant shift in the transfer policy of FC Barcelona, as instead of getting a player’s market value worth of fees at the time of his sale, the Catalans have been keeping some options on their contracts that can end up benefitting them in the future.

This was the case with their former winger Francisco Trincão, when they sold him to Sporting CP back in 2023 for €7 million, while also keeping a 50% right to any future fee obtained for the player.

Another clause in this contract gave Barcelona the right to buy him back for €25 million, but that option is valid only till 2026 when his current contract ends.

The Blaugranes were confident that Sporting would sell Trincão this summer, which would have allowed them to pocket a significant amount of money in transfer fees.

However, according to SPORT, the Portuguese club is not looking to sell him, and they have already started negotiating with him for a renewal.

The Portuguese is club looking to get him renewed for two more years, and if these negotiations turn out successful, this will jeopardize Barcelona’s buyback option on the player, as it is valid only till 2026, but their right to obtain 50% of any future transfer fee will remain.

The €27m-rated Portuguese winger himself currently wants to continue playing in Portugal, especially as his experiences playing in other parts of Europe have not really been successful. However, his entourage will listen to offers if they are put forward by a top European club.

But for now, Barcelona are clear that he will not return to their team, and not looking to activate the buyback clause.

Similarly, the Blaugranes can use their 50% right on the player to get a discount on another Sporting player interested in joining Barcelona. One such player that has been linked with the Catalans recently has been the striker Viktor Gyokeres.
