Following Tottenham’s 4-0 defeat in the Carabao Cup semi-final, Postecoglou addressed the backlash, insisting that his players should not be written off based on one result.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he acknowledged the disappointment but remained defiant about his team’s character.

Tottenham boss said: "I get the pile on at the moment, it's really easy for people to stick their boots in and question the players, but I don't.

"It's not about taking it on my shoulders. Thursday night doesn't direct me in what I do and think. We're an easy mark at the moment, obviously making a semi-final is an absolute disaster."

He also reassured supporters that an improvement is imminent, particularly in their upcoming fixture against Aston Villa.

"We were disappointed it didn't go the way we wanted and we didn't perform at the levels - but that doesn't define this group of players in my eyes."

Injuries and squad depth a growing concern

While Postecoglou remains optimistic, Tottenham's underlying issue may not be mentality but a growing injury crisis.

With key players sidelined, the squad has been stretched thin, forcing the manager to rely on the same core group each week.

This lack of depth was evident against Liverpool, where Spurs struggled to make an impact off the bench.

In contrast, the Reds introduced fresh legs in Luis Diaz, Harvey Elliott, and Diogo Jota, highlighting the gap in squad strength.
