Spurs loan watch: Third tier round up

In League One - like the rest of the EFL - there was a full slate of fixtures this weekend, and therefore action for Spurs loanees. Josh Keeley and Jamie Donley's Leyton Orient were in action at home to Stockport County in a big game towards the top of the league, whilst Matthew Craig's Mansfield Town travelled to lowly Shrewsbury Town.

How it all happened in the third tier of English football

As usual, both Keeley and Donley were named in the starting XI by manager Richie Wellens. It would be a tough start to the game, as Stockport took the lead after fourteen minutes. This was the first time the O's had been behind in League One since the 26th of November. Spurs had beaten Manchester City 4-0 in their last game before that, just to emphasise how long ago that was.

Despite the defeat, Orient remain in the play offs, occupying sixth position after 28 games - though by a thread. The three teams directly below them all have the same amount of points - 44 - just with worse goal difference.

Nevertheless, a very good position to be in at the end of a long unbeaten run. Next up for the O's is their FA Cup game against Manchester City, next Saturday, at 12:15 GMT. Who knows what sort of side Pep Guardiola will pick for the game, but it'll be great to see Keeley and Donley up against some of the very best players in the countries regardless.

Elsewhere, Matthew Craig was again not in the squad for Mansfield, as they lost their fourth league game in a row, and third in a row against teams in the bottom four of League One. Despite being a goal and a man up at half-time, they collapsed in the second half, allowing their hosts Shrewsbury to come from behind and win the game 2-1.

This defeat leaves the Stags in 14th place in League One, with 37 points from their 27 games so far. Next up is a home game against Northampton Town on Friday night, for a 19:45 GMT kick off.
