We, and many other outlets have covered the progression of Jamie Donley on loan at Leyton Orient in great detail this season. Those that aren't able to watch much of Orient got to see them and Donley in action against Manchester City on national television last week, where they gave a really good account of themselves, and could have easily forced extra-time on another day.

During that game, the Spurs loanee forced an own goal with an incredible strike from just a few yards into the City half, with his effort striking the crossbar and bouncing in off Stefan Ortega, as he continued his good form from the league.

In fact, his form in the league was so good in January in particular - that he has been named the EFL player of the month for January. Not just for League One, but the entire EFL. During January, Donley scored three goals, and registered three assists in just five league outings. This included a direct free-kick against Bristol Rovers, and a Harry Kane esque raking assist against Exeter City.

A 0-0 draw away to Peterborough United was the only game during the whole month that Donley did not score or assist in, showing just how consistent he was in that period. His game is more than just those numbers though. You can see when he plays that he is a very high IQ player, particularly for his age. He often plays the crucial pass that leads to a goal when Orient are attacking. A simply sublime footballer.

It's crazy to think that he often wasn't making the match day squad during his first couple of months at Orient. By the middle of November, he had played fewer than 600 minutes in all competitions. Now he has played around 2200 minutes. 1600 or so more minutes in around the same amount of time. Great to see.

Although Richie Wellens caused controversy with his comments towards Ange Postecoglou a few weeks ago, leaving many Spurs fans pretty angry - and understandably so - there is little doubt that he has been very good for the development of Donley and fellow Spurs youngster Josh Keeley.

The best young player across three divisions of football for January. Absolutely not anything that should be sniffed at all. Really impressive stuff. Aside from this, he has also been nominated for the London player of the year award. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season pans out for Donley, Keeley, and their Orient side.
