Rouault has made 40 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart across his two years at the club, as well as being a key figure in Die Schwaben's Champions League squad this season.
The French defender signed for the club for just 3 million euros last summer, after spending the 2023/24 season on loan at Stuttgart from Toulouse.
After missing out on Kevin Danso, who made the switch from RC Lens to Tottenham, relegation-threatened Rennes went all in for Rouault, who leaves Stuttgart after the sides agreed a fee of 13 million euros, plus another two in bonuses.
VfB have since announced the signing of Luca Jaquez from Swiss side Luzern, whilst Nürnberg's Finn Jeltsch will reportedly join the club today.
Stuttgart's director of sport, Fabian Wohlgemuth, released a statement regarding the sale of Rouault in the club's official announcement.
“Rouault has contributed with his achievements, with the fact that we were able to follow this successful path in recent months. Now, he has approached us with the desire to continue his career in his home country.”
“We agreed, because Anthony has always behaved impeccably and because the corresponding financial framework conditions are also in place with this transfer.”
