Kicker reports that a failed medical has sunk a deal to send VfB Stuttgart central defender Anrie Chase to RB Salzburg. The Bundesliga outfit were hoping to generate some revenue from the sale of the €4m-valued Japanese youth international. In the end, however, Chase’s continued struggles with a torn adductor fiber incurred in March led to the transfer’s collapse.

Whether or not the 21-year-old has a future with his current German club remains to be seen. Chase is well known to be on Stuttgart’s “strike list” for the current summer transfer window. Chase made 12 appearances for the Stuttgart first team during the first half of the Bundesliga season.

He was nevertheless back with the VfB reserves in the 3. Liga after the turn of the 2025 calendar year, long before he suffered his injury. Chase did score a late goal off the bench in Stuttgart’s March Round-of-16 Pokal victory over SSV Jahn Regensburg.

Salzburg recently purchased another failed Stuttgart prospect from last season in the form of Bayern prospect Frans Krätzig. Former RB Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder evidently a great deal of interest in Chase as well, but a move to the Austrian Red Bulls appears to be off for now.
