Former England boss Sven-Göran Eriksson has passed away at the age of 76 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

A statement from his family confirmed the news and read “After a long illness, Sven died during the morning at home surrounded by family.

“The family asks for respect for their wish to mourn in private and not be contacted.”

The coach had trophy winning seasons in his native Sweden, at Benfica, and in Italy with Lazio, Roma and Sampdoria.

He then went on to become the Three Lions first overseas manager in 2001 before going on to coach the likes of Manchester City, Leicester and Mexico.

More recently, Eriksson took charge of his beloved Liverpool in a charity game at Anfield, calling the experience “a dream come true”.
