According to Fabrizio Romano, the Swans have beaten Middlesbrough to the player's signature, having moved quickly for Wright and Melker Widell after losing Matt Grimes.

There was a lot of discontent at the Swansea.com Stadium not too long ago, with Grimes being heavily linked with a move to Coventry City at that point and the club also losing 5-1 against Norwich City last weekend.

Hannes Delcroix could have been their only signing of the January transfer window, but the Welsh side announced Widell's arrival yesterday, which may have helped to cushion the blow of former captain Grimes' move to the Coventry Building Society Arena.

As a man under pressure, Luke Williams desperately needs the likes of Delcroix and Widell to make a real impact in South Wales in the coming months, and their contributions could have a big say in whether he still has a job at the end of the season or not.

Another player also looks set to make the move to the Swansea.com Stadium imminently.

Swansea City win Jacob Wright race

Romano believes Swansea are winners in the race for Wright, who has appeared for Man City at a first-team level before, but has only made a very limited number of appearances for his senior team.

And City are set to sanction a permanent exit for the 19-year-old, who looks set to link up with the Swans in a £4m deal.

Boro were also believed to be in pursuit of the teenager, but it's Williams' side who have come out on top in this race, and could richly benefit from having the midfielder at their disposal in the coming years.

Wright may have played a couple of times for City this season, but he needs regular game time.

And having failed to establish himself as a key part of Pep Guardiola's plans so far, a permanent move may be an even better option than a temporary switch.

This will allow him to settle down in South Wales and focus fully on life at the Swansea.com Stadium, which could aid his development.

He may also have a better chance of winning game time at Swansea than at Boro, who already have a talented young midfielder in Hayden Hackney at their disposal.
