Sweden defeated tournament co-hosts Australia 2-0 in the third/fourth place play-off match at FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.
Mackenzie Arnold had to make a smart early save from Stina Blackstenius, while Zećira Mušović turned a Hayley Raso effort round the post.
Fridolina Rolfo headed against the bar but converted a penalty before the half-hour mark, given by referee Cheryl Foster after a VAR check showed Clare Hunt had caused Blackstenius to go down in the box.
Arnold was again in action with a sharp stop to deny Philippa Angeldahl, Mušović keeping out a Sam Kerr strike in first-half added time.
Sweden doubled their advantage on the break, Kosovare Asllani exchanging passes with Blackstenius and firing home from the edge of the area.

Clare Polkinghorne was denied by Mušović, as Sweden maintained their two-goal cushion through to the end.
