The Athletic reveal what Chelsea believe is the biggest factor to their current poor form

Chelsea have suffered a loss of form over the last two months and The Athletic have revealed what the Blues think the biggest reason for that is.
Enzo Maresca made a brilliant start to life at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea flying high in second place and playing some of the best football in the league.
The Blues found themselves in the title race conversation, but after missing the chance to momentarily go top after being held to a goalless draw against Everton before Christmas, things haven’t been the same.
Since missing that chance Chelsea have been in free fall and Maresca’s men have only won three of their last 11 league matches, and were also dumped out of the FA Cup by Brighton.
Failure to strengthen in the January transfer window didn’t go down well with supporters and the Blues paid a hefty price for that.
Both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu picked up injuries against West Ham on deadline day, with Jackson ruled out until April with his hamstring injury.

Noni Madueke picked up a hamstring injury in the 3-0 defeat to Brighton, whilst Romeo Lavia is still sidelined, leaving the Blues short of options in several key areas of the pitch.
These injuries haven’t helped and The Athletic have reported that internally Chelsea believe the injury problems have been the most “significant contributing factor” to recent results.
The report also adds that other regular starters have been playing with minor physical issues, which is to be expected at this stage of the season.

Wesley Fofana was back in the squad for the win against Southampton in a boost for Maresca, whilst the likes of Jackson and Madueke are set to return after the International break.
The Blues have four fixtures to navigate between now and then, and will be hoping the return of injured players gives them the boost they need to finish the season strongly.
