Chelsea are thinking about letting Mamadou Sarr spend another season on loan at Strasbourg to help him develop according to The Athletic.

The Blues agreed a deal worth €14m for the 19-year-old in January with the view to him joining the club at the end of the season.

Sarr has been one of Strasbourg’s standout performers, with Chelsea’s sister club just four points off second place in Ligue 1.

Chelsea’s plan for Sarr

The teenager only joined Strasbourg from Lyon last summer, but has earned praise from Liam Rosenior this season.

Andrey Santos has also singled Sarr out, and it’s clear the defender is a big talent with all the attributes to have a successful career.

Chelsea have a number of centre backs on their books and there’s expected to be a significant amount of movement in that area this summer.

The Blues are looking to bring another centre back in with the club strongly linked with Dean Huijsen, whilst Marc Guehi is another target.

It almost feels like Sarr has been forgotten about, but The Athletic have provided an update on what Chelsea are thinking of doing with the youngster.

They report that with Strasbourg likely to qualify for European football, Chelsea are considering letting Sarr stay on loan for another season to help with his development.

Of course that will only be possible if Chelsea and Strasbourg aren’t in the same European competition next season, with that outcome still very much possible.

Sarr has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit this season, but it seems Chelsea fans may have to wait just a little longer to see him make his debut.

Axel Disasi is expected to leave, whilst Trevoh Chalobah and Renato Veiga could also be sold, with Chelsea currently having 11 centre backs on their books.
