‘The idea of the club has changed’ – pressure transforms into ambition at PSG | OneFootball

The discourse around Paris Saint-Germain has changed in recent months and the project has too. For years, PSG have been hell-bent on getting their hands on the UEFA Champions League trophy but simply stating their ambition has not made it a reality.

This season, under Luís Enrique, pressure has given way to ambition. Nasser Al-Khelaifi, both publicly and behind closed doors, has sought to ease the pressure on what is a youthful squad. With Lionel Messi and Neymar both departing last summer, there has been a transition from one project to the next and that transition is being accompanied with patience.

However, finding themselves on the opposite side of the Champions League draw to Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Arsenal, there are reasons for optimism at PSG. However, despite the easing of pressure at the French club, there is no decrease in ambition, assures Luís Enrique.

“I hope that the ambition will be bigger. We don’t feel any pressure. At the start of the group stage, I saw lots of players take responsibility, now there is enthusiasm, we are very ambitious, we want to play and we want to qualify,” began the Spaniard in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News.

He added, “The idea of the club has changed, we saw that with the departures of big players this summer. The dynamic has changed and we have the same idea with this club. I try not to think too much about pressure, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t ambitious and that we can’t win the Champions League. But we don’t want to think about pressure because we knows what it is to win a Champions League.”
