Manchester United could be set to replicate the Patrick Dorgu operation by chasing delightful Como youngster Assane Diao.
The 19-year-old started his career at Cadiz before moving to Real Betis in 2021. Last summer, he was linked with a host of clubs around Europe, but in the end, Cesc Fabregas swayed to him to join the newly-promoted Serie A side in January.
The Lariani spent €12 million to secure the services of the promising winger, and it has already proven to be a brilliant coup on their part, with the teenager swiftly cementing himself as a key player in the lineup. He has already netted five goals in his 12 Serie A appearances, including strikes against Juventus and Napoli.
According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Man Utd sent a scout to watch the player in action on Saturday as Como hosted Empoli at the Stadio Sinigaglia.

While the scout’s assessment remains unclear, Diao produced another solid showing in the contest that ended in a 1-1 draw. at least based on Fabregas’ words.
The former Arsenal and Barcelona star wasn’t impressed with his team’s overall display, but singled out the youngster for praise.
“The only player I liked today was Assane Diao, even though he only returned from international duty on Thursday. He was the only one who tried something. I think we can do much better,” said the legendary midfielder in his post-match interview.
Fabregas was referring to Diao’s first two outings with the Senegalese national team, which ensued over the international break. The youngster had represented Spain on the U18, U19 and U21 levels, but has decided to declare for his country of origin on the senior level.
The Ndongane native is a right-footed player who mostly enjoys starting on the left wing, making him the perfect foil for Amad Diallo who operates on the opposite flank.
Man Utd are no strangers to fishing for talent in Italy, having already signed the Amad, Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, and most recently Patrick Dorgu from various Serie A clubs.
