A long chapter will come to a close in the summer of 2026 as Didier Deschamps’ stint as France manager comes to an end. Deschamps has led Les Bleus since 2012, however, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be his last in the hot seat.
Deschamps announced at the start of January that he would be leaving his position as manager of the national team. By the time he leaves, he will have been in the job for 14 years. He has already won the World Cup and he will be looking to win another in North America next summer.
However, the Frenchman is insistent that, when he leaves the France national team, his time as manager will not be over. Deschamps has already said that he doesn’t see himself managing another national team, however, a return to club management has been evoked, whilst notably opening the door to a move abroad, where he believes his work with Les Bleus is more “recognised”.
“It is factual… there is more recognition abroad than in my own country. In terms of my future, I am not closing any door – in France or abroad. I have the freedom to choose and I know that it will be different (to managing France) but very good too,” he told Le Figaro.
Deschamps has previously had spells managing AS Monaco, Juventus, and Olympique de Marseille. He managed the latter just before taking the France job.
