“There’s not a Single Positive!” – Former Man United Defender Slams Club Over 15th Place Premier League Finish

As the dust settles on another disastrous campaign, Manchester United find themselves in unfamiliar and deeply troubling territory. A humiliating 15th-place finish in the Premier League and a crushing 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League final marks one of the worst seasons in the club’s modern history.
Former United defender Paul Parker, speaking exclusively to EPL Index, summed it up without sugar-coating a single detail: “There’s not a single positive and I’m not even going to try and make one up, to be honest.” It’s a stark but accurate reflection of just how far the club has fallen.
United’s fanbase is global, loyal and deeply invested in the club’s identity and legacy. To them, this season has felt like betrayal. The standard on the pitch has not just dropped, it has collapsed entirely. Parker’s assessment speaks volumes: “The only thing they can take from it is knowing they have to do so much better next season.”
This isn’t merely about disappointing results. It’s about a complete lack of character, quality and direction. The club’s culture, once defined by relentless ambition and resilience, now looks alarmingly adrift.

Ruben Amorim faces a monumental challenge. He inherits a disjointed, lifeless squad and a fanbase starved of success. Parker is clear on what needs to happen: “The manager needs new players to improve the team, because these players just can’t. They haven’t got the heart or ability to do it.”
The solution lies in recruitment. Amorim needs players who embody the values United were once known for: hunger, pride and the ability to dig deep.
Man United are already on the verge of signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves for a fee of around £62million, which is a solid start to the window in fairness.
Too often in recent years, United’s strategy has been reactive and sentimental. Appointing former players, chasing marquee signings and clinging to fading glories has led to stagnation. Amorim represents a shift in thinking — a tactically astute manager with fresh ideas — but he cannot succeed alone.

There needs to be a clear plan from top to bottom. That means hard decisions on underperforming stars, a refreshed scouting approach and a commitment to rebuilding the club’s core philosophy.
The brutal truth is, this cannot happen again. Paul Parker echoes that desperation: “It’s not going to be nice, but you cannot expect for that to happen again.” His final warning is one every fan will feel in their bones: “They shouldn’t be anywhere near this level again in my lifetime.”
Manchester United have been humiliated, but they now stand at a crossroads. They can either allow this crisis to define them, or they can finally begin the work of reinvention. Amorim must be given the support, patience and resources to lead that change. Because for a club of this stature, anything less is simply unacceptable.
