Difficult to think of many/any benefits due to exiting the FA Cup, however, one thing it has done is give clarity to the remaining Newcastle United match schedule.
This is the FA Cup quarter-final draw:
Fulham v Crystal Palace, Preston v Aston Villa
Bournemouth v Man City, Brighton v Nottingham Forest
What happened in the FA Cup fifth round, means that we know the exact order of the remaining 12 Newcastle United matches, which won’t be changed now, as you can see below.
Of the eight clubs remaining in the FA Cup, Newcastle still have to play Palace, Villa and Brighton. However, none of those NUFC match dates clash with the remaining rounds of the FA Cup.
After these next two games against West Ham and Liverpool, there is then a 17 days wait before Brentford at St James’ Park on Wednesday 2 April. An international fortnight is following by FA Cup quarter-final weekend of Saturday 29 March, leaving United without a match.
Ipswich lost to penalties in the FA Cup on Monday, meaning our game at home against them goes ahead on Saturday 26 April.
Whilst Newcastle will play their final away game of the season on FA Cup Final weekend. United visit Arsenal and whilst no Premier League matches will be played on the Saturday and clashing with that Cup Final, we know that Gunners game won’t now need to move into the final midweek before the last game of the season at home to Everton, which is a 4pm kick-off on Sunday 25 May (all PL matches kicking off at same time on that last day of the season).
So when you look at the remaining Newcastle United match schedule below, all we are waiting for are the TV choices to be made and then find out exactly when on those three weekends we will play Brighton away, Chelsea at home and Arenal away.
