Tigres beat Club América 2-0 (3-0) on aggregate to win the women’s Liga MX Apertura 2022 final title at Estadio Universitario on Monday.
Following a 1-0 result last Friday, the final was very much up for grabs between these two clubs.
But just like the first leg, Lizbeth Ovalle was again the hero as she led her team on the pitch with the opening goal.
Her low drive went in between the legs of América goalkeeper Itzel González after roughly 20 minutes to put the match in Tigres’ favour.
And while América had over an hour to bounce back, their defence crumbled again as Belén Cruz got on the end of a cross in the box and all but handed Tigres the win.
It’s now a record fifth title for Tigres, and Monday’s match saw a record 94,269 fans in attendance to witness it.
