The Portland Timbers have announced a contract extension for legendary midfielder Diego Chará, signing the Colombian up for his 15th season at Providence Park, with a club option for one more year in 2026.
Chará signed for the Cascadia club back in 2011 and has been the centerpiece of the midfield for the club ever since, helping to lead them to three MLS Cup Final appearances, winning one.
This past season, Chará set a new record for regular-season MLS appearances with one club with 377.
Despite making over 400 appearances in all competitions for the Timbers and closing in on 40-years-old, Chará remains a key component of Phil Neville's engine room.
“We are delighted that Diego will continue his career as a Portland Timber," said Timbers General Manager Ned Grabavoy. "He possesses all the traits that as a player and person are important to our club.
“His commitment and dedication as a professional have afforded him longevity in his career. Diego has been nothing short of remarkable in every way, and we are pleased he will continue playing a role with us next season.”
