Torino are pushing to sign out-of-favour Everton striker Beto, which means they won’t likely sign Inter Milan’s Marko Arnautovic.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that Beto has emerged as the Granata’s top target in the striker position.
There is little question that Torino will sign a striker during the January transfer window,
The Piedmontese club are looking to sign a replacement for Duvan Zapata.
Zapata has been out for the past several months with a serious knee injury. And he will not recover from that injury any time soon.
Therefore, Torino want a new striker for the second half of the season.
The priority is a striker with a similar profile to the Colombian. That means a centre-forward who can provide holdup play and a physical presence up front rather than just goals.
There have been a couple of strikers within Serie A who Torino have been eyeing up.
One has been Napoli striker Giovanni Simeone, However, the former Hellas Verona, Cagliari, and Fiorentina striker would come with a heavy price tag.
Meanwhile, Torino have also sounded out the idea of trying to convince Inter striker Arnautovic.
The Granata could offer the Austrian more playing time than he’s been receiving at Inter.
However, Tuttosport report, Torino’s efforts are now focused on Everton striker Beto.
The 26-year-old has not featured much for the Toffees this season.
And Beto has proven himself in Serie A. He enjoyed two solid seasons with Udinese.
Therefore, Beto wants a return to the Italian top flight. And Torino see the Portuguese as an ideal solution to their striker problem.
Considering that Beto is hardly a big part of the plans at Goodison Park, Everton are willing to negotiate.
Torino are hoping to sign the former Friulani striker on a €3-4 million paid loan, while covering his wages of around €3-3.5 million net per season.
