Son returned from a hamstring injury against West Ham on Saturday but was absent from Spurs training on Wednesday.

Spurs face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Sunday.

Postecoglou said on Wednesday: “Sonny was a bit sore after the weekend, he was never going to be involved tomorrow anyway because he missed a bit.

“So we're leaving him out tomorrow and see how he is.”

Postecoglou has also confirmed Wilson Odobert could return against AZ after more than a month out with a hamstring injury.

Odobert is back in training and, when asked whether the £25million summer signing could feature on Thursday, the Spurs head coach said: “Yeah, potentially.

“Again, we've got to be a bit more careful with him because he's missed a lot. He's only had this week of training. He's be involved tomorrow, in the squad. Game-time will be game-dependent with him but good to get him back and after this week he should be fully available.”

Richarlison could make his first start of the season against AZ following his comeback off the bench in Saturday’s 4-1 win against West Ham.

Postecoglou said: “Richy got through the weekend really well, he's trained, this is almost the second week of training now, so he's ready to go in terms of being available, for sure.”

Djed Spence trained individually on Wednesday but he is not available to face AZ anyway after being left out of the Europa League squad.

Spurs have made a strong start in the Europa League, winning their first two matches against Qarabag and Ferencvaros.
