Ange Postecoglou has rued Tottenham Hotspur’s luck on the injury front as their woeful run of form continued with a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Thursday.
Anthony Elanga’s goal just before the half-hour mark saw Spurs come away empty-handed from a fourth league outing in five matches, only a few days after they were comprehensively thrashed 6-3 by Liverpool.
Already without the services of first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, Tottenham lost Radu Dragusin to further deepen their crisis.
Tottenham could be without nine players through injury for their final outing of 2024 against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
“We’re running a fine line,” Postecoglou said in his pre-match press conference.
“There’s always been issues at different times, but not to this extent. I think we’ve had close to pretty consistently ten first-team players not available for a significant run of games.
“Definitely a first for me. We’re in a tough spot, and we have been for a while.
“We’ve been kind of getting through it for quite a while. Keeping our fingers crossed, we don’t get any more issues.”
Despite scoring the second-most goals behind Liverpool, Tottenham are currently 11th in the Premier League. Their best route to securing European football could be via the League Cup.
Courtesy of a thrilling 4-3 quarter-final triumph over Manchester United, Spurs are through to the last four of the competition in their search for a first piece of silverware since 2008.
However, a daunting two-legged assignment against Liverpool awaits them.
