Tottenham Rotation Expected as Wolves Clash Looms Ahead of Frankfurt Test

As the Premier League returns this Sunday, Tottenham face a tactical balancing act away at Wolves, with Ange Postecoglou expected to shuffle his pack ahead of Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Balancing Act Between Bundesliga and Molineux

Following a 1-1 draw in north London, Spurs must head to Germany with both energy and clarity. That begins with squad management at Molineux. “It’ll be about sort of managing minutes of some guys, but also getting some minutes into other guys,” Postecoglou said. “We’ll need a big game, big performance, on Sunday, so having some fresh legs will help.”

Rest, rotation and readiness are all on the agenda. “But also looking to next Thursday, like I said it’s not just about resting guys or managing guys, it’s also about having guys ready next week. It could go to 120 minutes and we need people ready to go, so a combination of those factors [means] we’ll make some changes.”

Key Men Likely to Sit Out at Wolves

The likes of Destiny Udogie and James Maddison are nursing fatigue after midweek exertions and are expected to sit this one out, alongside Micky van de Ven and club captain Heung-min Son. That opens the door for minutes elsewhere. Lucas Bergvall and Rodrigo Bentancur, both influential in the first leg, could be preserved for Frankfurt, with Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Archie Gray pressing their cases.

“Some guys need games, you know. You can put them in cotton wool as much as you like, but some players need to play and they need to play pretty regularly, so it’ll be a sort of combination of hopefully getting an outcome on Sunday and also having great preparation for Thursday,” said Postecoglou.

Richarlison and Tel to Lead the Line?

With Richarlison pushing for a return after featuring against Frankfurt, and Mathys Tel eager to build on his late penalty in last weekend’s win over relegated Southampton, Tottenham’s forward line could carry a fresh feel at Molineux.

Speculation in Germany regarding Tel’s future was firmly dismissed. “Don’t believe everything that comes out of Germany press. Any press really these days. I shouldn’t say press but just information in general. The days of it being double-checked, triple-checked, triple-sourced are long gone,” Postecoglou said. “Matty’s important for us.”
