Roma legend Francesco Totti claims that Antonio Conte and Massimiliano Allegri have ‘already signed for other clubs’ when asked about his ideal choice for the next Giallorossi head coach once Claudio Ranieri’s tenure comes to an end.

Roma are on the hunt for a new permanent head coach to replace Ranieri, who will step away from his interim role at the end of the 2024-25 campaign. The Tinkerman will also have a say over the next permanent appointment.

A long list of names have been linked with the Giallorossi job, including Allegri, Roberto Mancini, Gian Piero Gasperini, Stefano Pioli, Patrick Vieira, Cesc Fabregas, Vincenzo Montella, Roberto De Zerbi, Francesco Farioli and Nuno Espirito Santo.

A number of them have already insisted that they are happy at their current clubs, including Fabregas and Vieira, while Ranieri has already ruled out Olimpico moves for some of the aforementioned names, including Gasperini.

Totti, meanwhile, admits that Conte and Allegri would be among his first-choice picks for Roma head coach, as he feels they are two of the best coaches around, but he claims that both have ‘already signed for different clubs’ ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Conte is currently under contract with Napoli until the summer of 2027, but has been linked with a return to Juventus at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Allegri, meanwhile, is not currently in a job after leaving Juventus at the end of the 2023-24 season. He has been linked with a move to take over from Conte at Napoli in the event that the current Partenopei boss leaves for Juve, and Totti claims that both of them have ‘already signed for other teams’ ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

“They are two coaches who have already signed for other teams, so neither of them,” Totti told Sky Sport Italia when asked whether he would like Conte or Allegri to take over at Roma this summer.

“I don’t know whether it will be an Italian or a foreigner, also because all the best coaches have gone,” he joked.

“But it depends on the club and where they want to go, and most importantly what they want to do next year. I’ve always said, since I was a director, that you should not mess with the fans. We have to be realistic and tell the truth, even if Roma is in 10th place, 15th, first, second.

“People want this, they want to know the truth. When people know the truth, everything becomes easier.”
