Roma and Italy legend Francesco Totti refuses to rule out returning from retirement: ‘Some Serie A clubs called me, I’d be ready in two months.’

Former Italian striker Totti, a 2006 World Cup winner, says he could return to playing football over seven years after his retirement.

“Never say never in life. Some players returned to playing after some years,” the ex-striker said during an event at Sportitalia Village, as quoted by TMW.

“I must train well to play in Serie A. Some Serie A clubs called me recently. It happened last month, and they made me think about it. I felt a bit of craziness. I asked myself: ‘Why do they still look for me after so many years?’ I’d be ready in two months.”

Former Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to have made a Serie A appearance at 44 years, one month, and eight days. Gigi Buffon is the second, having played in May 2021 with Juventus at 43 years, three months, and 14 days.

Totti retired at the end of the 2016-17 campaign after spending his entire career at Roma.

The 48-year-old scored 307 goals in 786 appearances with the Giallorossi, winning a historic Serie A title at the Stadio Olimpico in 2000-01 under Fabio Capello.

During his playing career, he also won two Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa Italiana. He became the Serie A leading scorer in 2006-07, scoring 26 goals.

Totti scored nine goals in 58 games with Italy’s national team. He announced his international retirement after winning the 2006 World Cup.
