Igor Tudor has confirmed that Manuel Locatelli will be the new captain of Juventus moving forwards, but has told the press that he will pick ‘two or three’ other names to step up as leaders if the Italian is unavailable.

Tudor was appointed as head coach of Juventus on Sunday, replacing Thiago Motta who was dismissed on the same day. The Croatian began work on the training pitch on Monday, welcomed his first-team players back from international duty on Wednesday and gave his first press conference on Thursday.

Tudor addressed a number of issues during his introductory chat with the press, including the roles that Dusan Vlahovic, Teun Koopmeiners and Kenan Yildiz have to play, plus the situation surrounding his contract, which currently runs until the end of the 2024-25 season.

Tudor confirms Locatelli will captain Juventus

One of the other exciting bits of news from Tudor’s first Juve press conference was the confirmation of a new captain. Motta had faced criticism for his decision to share the captaincy around several first-team players, which harmed the continuity and hierarchy within the team, according to certain critics.

In an attempt to avoid the same mistakes, Tudor confirmed directly that Locatelli will be the go-to captain of Juventus moving forwards.

“Everyone has to take responsibility. The captain will be Locatelli. We will make two or three others in the coming days. They arrived yesterday. Manuel is a stand-up, decent guy. He has the right skills to do it,” Tudor told the press, reported via TMW.
