The derby against Inter on Sunday could already be decisive in determining the fate of Sergio Conceicao, according to a report.
According to Tuttosport (via MilanPress), the defeat against Dinamo Zagreb – which saw Milan drop from sixth in the Champions League standings to 13th – has put the team back into ‘full crisis’ and Conceicao’s position is ‘now in the balance’.
However, the coach is not at risk because of the results obtained (he has won five of eight games so far) but because the negative and nervous atmosphere that is being created around the team. The coach’s tough line has raised awareness but has also put the team on edge.
For example, the spat with Davide Calabria at full-time in the Parma game was an undesirable incident, then Yunus Musah got a red card during the Dinamo loss and Alvaro Morata has asked to leave because he doesn’t get along with the ex-Porto boss.
Yesterday the management spoke with the coach and the team at Milanello to understand what the problems are and to find possible solutions. Conceicao himself spoke about the difficulty in his work because the fundamentals are missing, which are hard to change after so few training sessions.
Sunday’s derby will therefore represent another crossroads in the season. If Conceicao were to continue to arouse doubts, the club could turn to Edin Terzic or Xavi, or even someone like Max Allegri who knows the Italian league.
