Tuttosport: Two games to save face – Milan left clinging to sad last objective

AC Milan take on Roma at the Stadio Olimpico tonight, the same venue they lost the Coppa Italia at, and now the Conference League is the only hope.
Wednesday’s cup final defeat saw hopes of a Europa League place vanish. The European race still lives in the league but as Roma are the next opponents, fans are right to be pessimistic about achieving a positive result.
Sergio Conceicao didn’t do a press conference either amid reports that his fate is sealed and he will depart the club after just a few months in charge, although this was perhaps expected given the tight window.
As this morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanPress) recall, Milan reached a Champions League semi-final in 2022-23 after winning the Scudetto the previous season. Who would have thought then that Milan would find themselves fighting for the Conference League in 2024-25? Probably no one.
Not even the most pessimistic of pessimists saw this sharp downfall. However, this is the reality today, because the Rossoneri must now hope to earn a pass to the third-biggest European competition, given the unlikely combinations for fourth or fifth place.
The paper write that with two wins against Roma and Monza, qualification for the Conference League would be secured regardless of their rivals’ results from now until the end of the season. With 66 points, Milan would be in sixth or seventh place, barring any sensational slip-ups by Juventus, Lazio or Bologna.
