Here’s the lowdown on Thursday’s Europa League action.
Scorers: Sancho 17′, Ronaldo (pen) 39′
Manchester United got their first Europa League win of the season and Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first ever goal in the competition as they overcame Sheriff Tiraspol.
United dominated the early stages in Moldova and took the lead after 17 minutes, when Jadon Sancho received a Christian Eriksen pass in the box and turned nicely before finding the bottom corner with his left foot.
Sancho almost got his second of the night in the 37th minute, but his effort was cleared off the line superbly by Sheriff captain Stjepan Radeljić.
United were then awarded a penalty, when Diogo Dalot was tripped in the box by Patrick Kpozo. Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up and fired his spot-kick down the middle for 2-0.
The visitors made a substitution at the break, with Casemiro on to replace Scott McTominay.
David de Gea was called into action to make a couple of saves in the second half, but the Spaniard dealt with them comfortably to preserve his clean sheet.
