Prior to his late – and perhaps surprise – move to Aston Villa, Marcus Rashford had been linked with a host of top European clubs.

It came after the Manchester United outcast had confirmed his desire to embark on a new venture elsewhere, all but putting himself in the shop window to seal a mid-season switch. However, it must be noted that even before Rashford’s admission, the club were briefing to the media that he was up for sale.

With the player also being continually omitted from Ruben Amorim’s squad each week, it became increasingly evident that it was time for all parties to call it a day, with the January window posing as the earliest opportunity to do so.

He, along with his agent and brother Dwaine Maynard, engaged in negotiations with several potential suitors. AC Milan were thought to be leading the race until they opted to pursue Manchester City wantaway Kyle Walker to fulfil their only remaining non-EU slot in the team.

Rashford was ultimately unable to seal desired move

Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Barcelona were all keen on welcoming Rashford to their attacks for the second half of the campaign – the latter being widely reported as his preferred destination. Yet, the Blaugrana’s ongoing precarious financial situation meant they would’ve had to sanction outgoings to free up space on the wage bill before sanctioning Rashford’s arrival on loan.

When they were unable to do so, the 27-year-old – hailed as ‘unstoppable’ by ex-manager Erik ten Hag – agreed a deal with Aston Villa, which will see him play Champions League football while battling for a European finish in the Premier League from now until the summer.

It’s since been revealed by Sky Sport Italia (via FCInter1908) that Inter Milan had been contacted by the forward’s representatives to gauge whether they’d be open to a transfer, but his £325,000-a-week wages were considered far too extortionate for the reigning Serie A champions to engage any further.
