Sunderland will be unable to complete a deal for KRC Genk forward Andras Nemeth this month, according to a report from Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad.

It is understood that Genk will not be willing to sell Nemeth this month despite the fact that the forward’s contract is set to expire in the summer.

Genk are taking the same stance regarding the future of Mika Godts who is unwilling to renew his contract amid interest from Ajax.

Sunderland were initially linked with a move for Nemeth earlier this month.

A report from Het Belang van Limburg suggested that the Black Cats were interested in the forward but had yet to make a serious offer for him.

A product of Genk’s youth academy, the 20-year-old scored on his senior debut for the club last season in a 4-1 victory over Beerschot.

During the current campaign, Nemeth has made 15 league appearances for Genk.

As well as providing two assists for his team-mates at this level, the forward has managed to find the back of the net on one occasion.

Handed his first cap by Hungary in November, Nemeth made an immediate impact for his country as he scored in their draw with Luxembourg.

The Verdict

With Genk seemingly unwilling to sell Nemeth, Sunderland will now have to switch their attention to alternative targets.

No longer able to turn to Ellis Simms for inspiration following Everton’s decision to recall the forward from his loan spell at the Stadium of Light, the Black Cats certainly need to strengthen their options in this particular area of the pitch.

While Ross Stewart has managed to provide an impressive total of 12 direct goal contributions in the 12 league games that he has participated in, there is no guarantee that he will be able to maintain his fitness during the remainder of the campaign.

Taking this into consideration, Sunderland should be looking to draft in an individual who will be able to provide some cover for Stewart before the window closes.

Set to take on Middlesbrough in the Championship this weekend, it will be intriguing to see whether the Black Cats are able to bolster their squad ahead of this particular showdown.
