Valencia confirm death of former academy talent in city’s floods

La Liga outfit Valencia have on Thursday evening announced the passing of José Castillejo, a former member of the club’s youth setup.

Castillejo was a victim of the sudden flash floods in the Valencia community this week, the death toll from which has now reached a figure in excess of 160.

He was just 28 years old.

As per a statement across Los Che’s website and social media platforms:

‘Valencia mourn the passing of José Castillejo, casualty of the flash floodings. José Castillejo came up through the Academia VCF youth system up to U18 level and played for others teams in the region. R.I.P.’

Castillejo, who generally took to the pitch in midfield, also lined out for a number of smaller clubs in and around the city of Valencia.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, these clubs included:

Torre Levante, Paterna, Eldense, Buñol, Recambios Colón, CD Roda, Torre Levante and Vilamarxant CF.
