Valencia are pushing to complete a summer swoop for out-of-favour Brentford forward Sergi Canos, according to Relevo.
The Spanish winger spent the second half of the last campaign on loan with Greek giants Olympiacos, where he notched four goals and three assists in eight appearances.
Despite lighting up the Greek Super League, Canos is not in Thomas Frank’s long-term plans at Brentford, and they are open to offloading the winger this summer.
Canos’ contract with the Bees was set to expire at the end of this month, but the club triggered an automatic extension to keep him at the Gtech Community Stadium for another year.
The move was made with Brentford keen to recoup a fee for the 26-year-old. However, triggering the clause against the player’s will has seen the relationship between both parties deteriorate even further.
Canos is extremely keen to join Valencia and has made his desire known to Brentford. He went public with his interest in joining the La Liga side last month in an exclusive interview with Relevo.
“I don’t want to say it like that, but it’s like that,” he said. “I’m dying to play for Valencia – it’s the truth.
“For once in my life, I want to be transparent because, at Christmas, I would have made a lot of effort to play for Valencia.
“What happens is that there are many things that do not depend on me.”
Valencia do not have a large budget, but they feel that Canos can be secured for a cheap fee.
The departures of Justin Kluivert and Samuel Lino have also given the club more leeway to lure Canos to the Mestalla Stadium.
Valencia have submitted an offer for Canos. Although the details of the proposal are still being closely guarded, it is believed that they offered a low transfer fee but with a significant percentage upon future resale.
The Spanish winger has racked up 36 goals and 33 assists in 249 appearances for the Bees since joining from Liverpool’s academy in 2015.
