Sky Germany reports that VfB Stuttgart winger Jamie Leweling has a release clause that is valued at €20-25m in his contract.

The clause means that the 23-year-old could leave the club in the summer but the clause will vary in price depending on the club and the league where the interest is from. Clubs from England are already said to be interest in Leweling who has had an impressive start to the season.

This is the second Stuttgart player in the last week to be revealed to have a low release clause. Last week it was reported that Enzo Millot has a clause worth €18-20m in his contract. On top of this, Stuttgart lost Hiroki Ito to Bayern Munich, and Waldemar Anton and Serhou Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund in the summer due to their low release clauses.

Leweling joined Stuttgart permanently for €5m in the summer after spending last season on loan from Union Berlin.

Stuttgart’s way of working of adding these low release clauses into contracts to keep players or attract players to the club has clearly worked but now with the growing status of the club and surprise performances under head coach Sebastian Hoeneß, it looks like it is set to backfire and Stuttgart will likely lose even more of the core of their team, as is the way of modern-day football and the gutting of rising teams.
