Matt O’Riley didn’t have the best of starts to life at Brighton following his record breaking move from Celtic. He was badly injured after being the victim of a reckless challenge on his debut against Crawley Town in the league cup back in late August.

The injury wasn’t bad as first feared and earlier this evening he made his long awaited return in Brightons league clash with Champions Manchester City. Matt made his EPL debut as he was introduced as a substitute just before the hour mark with the Seagulls trailing 1-0 to an Erling Haaland goal.

Fellow substitute Joao Pedro rocked Pep Guardiola’s side as he grabbed an equaliser for Brighton with just 12 minutes of normal time remaining.

Matt then sent the Falmer stadium into euphoria when he grabbed what proved to be the winner five minutes later. It was a typical well taken finish by the Danish international as he showed his class on the big stage.

Not that it came as a surprise to us Celtic supporters who know fine well Matt is a top player and well capable of performing on the big stage. We told the Brighton fans what they could expect from their £30m signing and they’ll be toasting him this evening, believing that it was indeed money well spent. In fact Matt will turn out to be one of their best buys ever.

The EPL snobs might be surprised, but Matt is a fantastic talent and will make his transfer fee seem like a bargain in the long run.

Here’s Matt talking about his scoring debut…
