Vivienne Lia has signed her first professional contract with Arsenal, becoming the third Academy graduate to do so this month. The 18-year-old joined Arsenal’s youth system at the age of 14 and has since worked her way into the senior squad.Lia featured for the Gunners during pre-season and assisted in a 3-0 victory over Southampton.
Lia gained her first start against the A-League All-Stars Women in May 2024. She was a standout performer and showed her ability to hold her own against tough opposition. Her pinpoint cross set up Alessia Russo for the match’s only goal, demonstrating her incredible vision and awareness on the pitch.
Lia was part of the travelling squad for Arsenal’s pre-season tour in the US. The youngster displayed her versatility, starting at right-back against Washington Spirit, instead of her natural position on the wing. She exhibited her ability to excel both offensively and defensively. Lia made her competitive debut in a 4-0 victory over London City Lionesses in the League Cup.
The Arsenal academy graduate has vast experience at international level, representing England at U19 level. She is a pacy winger with incredible dribbling abilities, making her an exciting player to watch. Her composure and close control are beyond her years, which is a testament to her continued hard work.
Lia’s unpredictability makes her a great attacking option for Arsenal if she remains with the first team squad. Her skillset could help with the Gunners’ squad management as they navigate the demands of a congested fixture calendar.
Upon signing professional terms with the Gunners, Lia said: “To sign a professional contract at the club I’ve spent my whole life supporting is incredible. I’ve worked so hard for this moment, and I’m delighted to be continuing my journey at Arsenal.”
Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “Creating a strong pathway for our youth players into first-team football is a key focus for us at the club, so to have followed Viv’s journey and watch her sign her first professional contract is a proud moment for everyone.”
