Former Real Madrid, RCD Mallorca and Barcelona forward Samuel Eto’o‘s turbulent time as President of the Cameroonian Football Association continues to hit the headlines. Having been accused of personally expelling Andre Onana from the squad in 2022 to being accused of match fixing, the latest episode showed shouting at Cameroon manager Marc Brys.
Brys, 61, was appointed to the role six months after reportedly retiring, having recently spent three seasons at OH Leuven in his native Belgium. He was named to the role by Minister for Sport Narcisse Mouelle Kombito, as per Cadena SER, without consulting the CFA. That decision was criticised by Eto’o, who invited him to the headquarters in order to begin work.
Various members of Brys staff were denied entry, and when a functionary from the Ministry for Sport was expelled from their meeting, Brys and Eto’o got into a loud argument. It was captured on camera, with Eto’o telling him that he had made ‘many mistakes’ and claiming he had in fact named him. He also asked for more respect, ‘not to be talked to like that’, as he asked him to stay. Brys told Eto’o that he was ‘not a manager’.
It is not the first time that Eto’o’s temper has gotten the better of him, previously assaulting a YouTuber who the ex-Inter striker claims was following him relentlessly. Nevertheless, he seems to remain untouchable in the eyes of the CFA or FIFA.
