Plymouth Argyle are weighing up a move to sign attacking midfielder Ravel Morrison for this season.

That's according to a report from The Sun, who say that Pilgrims manager Wayne Rooney is considering reuniting with the 31-year-old for a fourth time.

Rooney is, of course, no stranger to Morrison, with the pair having previously played together at Manchester United.

After that, the now Plymouth boss has also previously signed the attacker for both Derby County and DC United, during his time as manager of those two clubs.

Now it seems as though yet another link-up between the pair could once again be on the cards for the coming campaign.

Plymouth eyeing Ravel Morrison move

As per this latest update, Plymouth are now looking into a potential deal to sign Morrison this summer.

The attacking midfielder has always been highly-rated for his footballing ability, but has seen his career hampered by off-field issues.

Even so, Rooney has apparently always been close with Morrison, and is said to believe that the 31-year-old could still do a job for his team.

Plymouth are therefore thought to have watched Morrison play for a PFA team made up of players available on a free transfer recently.

The former Manchester United man has been a free agent since he left DC United at the start of this calendar year, having not made an appearance for the club since 2022.

Due to the fact he is a free agent, Morrison would not need to be signed before the transfer window closes at 11:00pm tonight.

So far this summer, Plymouth have completed eight new senior signings, with Nathaneal Ogbeta, Victor Palsson, Kornel Szucs and Dan Grimshaw permanently.

Meanwhile, Darko Gyabi, Muhamed Tijani, Irbahim Cissoko and Michael Obafemi have joined on season-long loans.

On the pitch, it has been a tough start to the season for the Pilgrims, who have taken one point from their first three league games.

They are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when they host Stoke City at Home Park.

Ravel Morrison could be a risky signing for the Pilgrims

It does feel as though Plymouth would be taking something of a gamble if they were to sign Morrison for this season.

There is no doubting his ability as a player, and his connection with Rooney could help to bring the best out of him.

But having not played competitive football for over a year, there will inevitably be questions about how long it might take him to get up to full fitness, if at all.

The Pilgrims will no doubt also be keen to avoid some of the off-field issues that have hung over the attacking midfielder in the past.

One positive even with that though, is the fact that as a free agent, this will be a cheap that reduces the finances being wasted if it does not work out.

Indeed, as a free agent, this could also be a deal for Plymouth to fall back on if they do not get their targets on deadline day.
